Eating Gluten Free at the Skylodge

Since we communicated ahead of time, Terry’s meals went off without a hitch. They were able to find gluten free bread that was put aside for him and prepared his meal separately. No risk of cross-contamination. Dessert wasn’t up to his liking but he didn’t go hungry and received plenty of food for both dinner and breakfast.

Terry and I are always on the lookout for unique adventures. Where else are you able to ascend a side of a mountain and sleep in a glass pod?!? And we did just that! We were picked up from our hotel, Tierra Viva Cusco Centro, and driven 1.5 hours to the base of our adventure. Following a short briefing and walk through of the safety equipment, we gathered our gear and up we went.

It took us about an hour and a half to traverse the 400 meters to our glass pod. We climbed up metal rungs that were bolted into the mountain, free soloed over a couple of rock walls, and shuffled across a tightrope. The climb itself wasn’t too long but having to detach and reattach your carabiners every 10-20 feet added to the length of the climb.

Once at the Skylodge, you are treated to a beverage and briefing on how to use the lodge. Later we were served a nice meal before retiring to our quarters; this time traversing the course in the dark with a headlamp on. Finally, left to enjoy the starry night either from your cozy bed or on top the platform entrance to your pod.

After a 7 a.m. wakeup call and warm breakfast we headed back to our pod for a photo shoot. Following our unparalleled photo shoot we harnessed up and began our descent. It takes about two hours to complete the 4 rope zipline course.
